Title of project: Breeding for high yielding and better-quality fodder cultivars in maize
Objective:
- To evaluate the maize germplasm and wild species for fodder- yield and-quality related traits
- To develop cultivars for quality fodder and silage
- To optimize planting methodology and harvesting stage to maximize the fodder production
- To evaluate the promising maize germplasm for hydroponics based green fodder production
Project team:
Yathish K R, Pardeep Kumar, A.K. Singh, J.S. Lamba, M.M. Das and Deep Mohan
Major achievements:
- 9 Landraces with superior green fodder yield over African Tall (check) were identified
- Inbred lines and two composites were crossed with Zea parviglumis and Zea mexicana for multi-tillering lines
