Title of project: CRP on Maize Bio-fortification
Funding agency: ICAR
Total approved cost of the project: Rs 22.6 Lakhs
Objective:
- Heterotic grouping and development of biofortified maize with high grain potential
- Mapping for high Fe, and Zn, content in maize kernels using GWAS approach
Project team:
PI: Dr. Bhupender Kumar;
Co-PIs: Drs S.B. Singh, Dharam Paul, Ramesh Kumar, Chikkappa G. Karjagi, S.L. Jat, Vishal Singh, Mukesh Choudhary
Major achievements:
- A new early maturing QPM hybrid IMHQPM 1530 has been identified for release in NHZ during 2019 with its yield superiority of 12.3 % and 22.4% over the best late (HQPM7) and early (Vivek QPM 9) maturing checks, respectively, over three years of AICRP testing (Plate 1)
- One QPM line DQL1019 with high % Tryptophan (>0.80) and lysine content (>3.0) has been developed and registered at NBPGR
- A set of 96 diverse new QPM inbred lines with different heterotic groups have been developed having high tryptophan content of more than 0.70%.
- A diverse association mapping panel of 350 genotypes of maize has been constituted, characterized and genotyped by using 60277 SNPs markers
