Title of the Project | : | Morphological, physiological and molecular Characterization of Diverse Set of Maize Germplasm |
Project Duration | : | 05.04.2017 to 04.04.2019 |
Project funding | : | External funded Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), (Statutory Body Established Through an Act of Parliament: SERB Act 2008), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. |
Total approved cost of the project | : | ` 19,20,000=00 |
Objective | : | Understand the interaction of genotypes with the environment for yield and yield related traits in maize.Assessment of molecular genetic diversity through DNA based markers. To classify the maize germplasm into different groups based on their morphological and molecular interaction. |
Project team | : | Mentor: Dr. Chikkappa G. Karjagi Principal Investigator: Dr. Shivraj Singh Gangoliya |
Majorachievements | : | A set 127 genotypes comprising inbred 58 lines, 48 hybrids, 11 open pollinated varieties (OPVs) and landraces, were evaluated mainly for yield and yield component traits in two planting densities (75×15 cm and 75×20 cm)Some of the inbred lines namely CML 161, CML 163 and CML 141 which are of exotic origin developed by CIMMYT and also inbred lines developed in India namely UMI1201, UMI1205, UMI1220, LM19 and BML2 were found to be potential base material based on their resilience under high-plant density for development of new and improved inbred lines/hybrid combinations for high plant density. |
