 Area of Interest:

  • Plant Genetic Resources Management including characterization, evaluation and documentation with special reference to landraces and wild species for use in  climate resilient agricultural systems.

Most significant achievements (in last five years):

  • Characterized, evaluated and regenerated more than 3000 accessions maize landraces from National Gene Bank (NGB) under the CRP-AB Project till 2017
  • Developed a Maize germplasm Decision Support Database for maize inbred germplasm and a total of 553 fixed maize inbred lines were documented in the database, since 2016 to 2020l https://krishi.icar.gov.in/wnciimr
  • Developed and released following maize hybrids, viz., DMRH1305 (Early Maturing Normal field corn), DMRHB 1305 (Baby corn), IMHP 1535 and IMHP 1540 (Popcorn) IMHQPM (QPM).
  • Two QPM lines DQL 2048 and DQL 2015-1have been registered with ICAR for moderate resistance to MLB, TLB
  • Coordinated the All India Coordinated Research Project on Maize Trials including breeding, pathology, entomology and Agronomy since 2017
  • A bi-lingual mobile app, Bharti MAKKA Maize Agri-Knowledge and Know-how App has been developed for the benefit of all the maize stakeholders, , farmers, extension workers, entrepreneurs, private sector, researchers, academicians and policymakers. Bharti MAKKA is an Android-based app that is available on the Google Play Store for free download
